PRIDE AND DISCIPLINE - HALLMARKS OF A UNITED STATES MARINE

PRIDE AND DISCIPLINE - HALLMARKS OF A UNITED STATES MARINE

It does not require many words to speak the truth.  - Chief Joseph

Yesterday morning a retired Marine sent image pulled from the official Facebook page of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.

Joke?

No.

The image ...

I monitored social media comments and messenger chatter. Strong sentiments.

Slept on it.

Pride Month?

Just like every meal a feast, every day a holiday, and every formation a family reunion in the Corps, every month is Pride Month - especially November; does the 10th ring a bell?

Diversity is not necessarily strength.

Diversity is a state, a condition. And can be debated ad nauseam. Truth.

Pride and Discipline, the hallmarks of a United States Marine, are strengths; proven, in training and battle and long after a Marine leaves service.

There is no debate. Truth.

What came to mind seeing that agenda-based multi-colored image and tagline (representing a tiny fraction of the ranks)?

Foremost, what happened to scarlet and gold? What happened to colors restricted to ribbons, medals, and battle streamers decorating colors?

How is it unifying?

And what happened to the timeless image (less lower right text) below?

Broken promise(s)?

People always get hurt.

A few good men and women will.

The next war sorts out all the nonsense.

There's going to be a lot of "gardening" - senseless.

Serendipitous today's commentary.

Of all days, 06 June.

Seventy-seven years ago the stench of blood, burning flesh, and death filled the air; roses could not have masked.

D-Day.

D did not stand for Diversity.

And there were plenty of D-Days in the South Pacific.

Pride and Discipline.

Semper fidelis.

And not an active duty flag officer from any service with the courage to speak the truth. They are all an embarrassment. Their silence now will cost lives later. They alone are responsible.

As Pogo once opined, "We have met the enemy, and it's us." Welcome to the "Woke" Marine Corps...

As always, Colonel, excellent piece. We are from the same time period and likely, God scooped our brains from the same batch.
I served with some who were gay. A few used it to get discharged; prancing down Barnett Ave., Quantico past PMO and HQ wearing pink leg warmers while playing an unplugged electric guitar and a matching head and wrist sweatbands to rile the CG. He got his BCD. Others kept their secret, but we could tell. But they were damned good Marines and damned good MPs. So we kept it too. There was an unwritten and unspoken agreement - Don't shove it down our throats, (literally or figuratively), and do your job, your private life is private. Keep it that way. Homo and bisexuality, whether it's how you were born or a choice, I don't know for sure, only God knows that. And until S/He stands here and tells me one way or the other, I'm not casting judgment, but again, don't shove it down my throat. Transsexuality is telling God S/He was wrong, and that just doesn't happen! You think a DI goes nuts if you tell them they are wrong? What do you think God is going to do to you when you show up at the Pearly Gates without the equipment S/He provided you, and with equipment S/He never intended you to have? I can assure you it will not be pretty and as proof, he has Marines guarding the streets of heaven to back him up. How many of those served as DIs/SDIs?
And as the Colonel points out, Pride is part of the Marine Corps - a Daily part. Not a day goes by that I don't have something on me that shows I am a Marine, and I left the Corps 39 years ago. My uncle, a WWII Veteran just died, and his hearse bore the Marine Seal as did his Mass Cards.
If you are gay, lesbian, or bisexual in the Marine Corps, you don't have to publicize it. If the straight members came in publicizing their sexual exploits, there would be complaints about a hostile work environment, sexual harassment, and whatever else can be thought up. "Celebt=rating" "Pride month" to bring attention to gay lifestyles which many still hold as abnormal and against firmly held religious beliefs, as well as transsexuality which goes so far as to demand persons who are still genetically male be permitted to compete in athletic competitions against genetic females, even competitions with full-body contact and also to share locker rooms and showers with the females, is not only wrong but perverted and obscene.
