Bluegrass is in my blood and in my ears. Charlie Haden

Purposely, I did not write this commentary yesterday - our national day of tom foolery.

So ...

Smoking grass and smokin' grass are not synonymous.

As such, THC (legal somewhere) and HGB (legal everywhere) are not akin.

Today's brief score is about HGB.

HGB?

Higher Ground Bluegrass.

HGB - the premier, that is - A major, bluegrass band that claims Albuquerque, New Mexico, home.

For 20 years now HGB has played, and in a sense smoked, joints - publicly and privately.

From private parties to pubs to ballparks to festivals, crowds gather - faces light up and folks get high.

Fans follow the band - near and far and high and low.

International airplay they enjoy.

Yes, HGB is that good.

And after the strings quiet form lines to meet the pickers and pick up CDs.

Ironically, just yesterday on social media the band announced a wrap and release of their 7th CD - HGB20 - celebrating 20 years of smokin' grass - old, new, original, and traditional blue.

HGB20

Fourteen cuts. Eight penned by band members. And all with the band's original flavor rolled into every tune.

Sweet sounds.

Inhale! by ear.

Full disclosure ...

HGB's founder and frontman is my brother, Ken (AKA: Duke - Marine; Sailor; Fighter/Attack pilot; 5-string banjo master; and songwriter extraordinaire).

The eye-catching cover art?

Mine.

Want to get high?

Noted.

This is some of the best grass you'll ever smoke.

It'll get in your blood.

HGB20 will be available 15 April - visit the band's website - highergroundbluegrass.com or cdbaby.com

Too available the band's previous six CDs. Terrific each. Legal - everywhere. I own all and light them up regularly. Music to drive by.

Please take a moment to check out the band's website - picker bios; band news; available music; and future joints for smokin' grass.

Alas ...

Recorded, again, at The Kitchen Sink Recording Studio - thekitchensinkstudio.com - in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jono Manson the brilliant engineer.

A photograph comes to mind of a sign that hangs outside Mr. Manson's joint: Hippies Use Side Door

Perfect, man, perfect.

Pass (on) the THC.

Get sky high on HGB!

When I hit the road I was really wheelin'
Had gravel flyin' and rubber squeelin'
An' I didn't slow down 'til I was almost to Arkansas
I think I'm gonna re-route my trip
I wonder if anybody'd think I'd flipped
If I went to LA via Omaha!

Yes, Facebook has blocked my url as not conforming to their “community standards.” Hilarious! So, the block is under protest. We’ll see if they reconsider.
