Only you can control your future. Dr. Seuss
Away for a while with barely a care in the world and only paying cursory attention to the childishness, albeit disconcerting and dangerous, going on in the world, I sketched - hundreds in graphite and scores in watercolor.
Mostly boats.
Boats moored and underway.
For hours and hours I noted how sun illuminated them. How wind moved them. How water moved them. How people moved them.
I studied their profile lines; all beautiful.
Control a recurring thought.
Which led to another thought.
Climate change.
Whether.
Whether to be happy or not, we control.
Whether to be helpful or not, we control.
Whether to be honorable or not, we control.
Whether to be hateful or not, we control.
Whether to be hurtful or not, we control.
Whether to be hopeful or not, we control.
Climate change?
Change the climate.
Climate change.
Weather.
Weather, whether we like it or not, is not ours to control.
So ...
Happy is, a week or so ago, painting boats in the Bahamas warm weather.
Elbow Cay Harbour
watercolor 5.5 x 8.5 in
Happy is painting, yesterday, not boats in Nebraska cold weather.
The Big End
gouache
7 x 10 in.
The climate changed. It was in the 70s in the Bahamas, This morning in Nebraska it's -14 with windchill. Today's happy number is 62.
But my climate did not change.
Happy is control of a paintbrush whether weather changes or not.
Climate is a state of mind; ours to change, ours to control.

Well said Andy! Welcome back to the cold. Just back from a week in Haiti. Warm weather and welcoming friends there. Wether there or here good to be reminded that we are in control of our "climate change". Thanks!
