Only Americans can hurt America. Dwight D. Eisenhower
Yesterday's commentary (actually posted late Tuesday night) was a short sarcastic comment on the statue flap.
https://acoloneloftruth.blogspot.com/2017/08/tomorrows-fix-for-americas-statue-scrape.html
Email has been interesting.
"We're looking forward to your commentary on Charlottesville, President Trump's press conference, ..."
"Your post is brilliant!"
And then came a commentary opinion, under the moniker Anonymous (of course) ...
"Is that the most you can say as a former military leader at a time like this? Even the Joint Staff Generals could make a more bold statement. It's not about the statues."
To Anonymous's opening question, yes.
And ...
"... at a time like this?"
Like what?
As to the Joint Chiefs, so what. They have more important things to be addressing boldly and haven't. Weak.
Well, clearly it is about the statues. Otherwise, mobs would not be desecrating and tearing them down. And gutless politicians would not be hastily ordering removal and destruction. If it's not about the statues, let there be civil discourse and public vote as to their future.
As to the whole matter ...
Ho hum.
The disgruntled will always be disgruntled about something. For misery is their happy state. And everyone knows misery enjoys company. Misery is easy. As my first rifle company commander said more than once, "Everybody is a victim." Ergo, current events.
Happy takes effort, work, and persistence. Some smarts. Mostly, maturity.
What is clear ...
There's not enough happy people. Time (idle) is facilitator of the miserable and enemy of the happy.
The happy volunteer for worthwhile causes.
Follow their lead, miserables. If nothing else, pick up litter - a win-win; bettering the community and exercising.
Criticizing our President is easy. And necessary, at times. Give him a break.
His administration must restore law and order and for that to happen order the law (to enforce law). Order follows.
There are more important things to think about and do.
But, in closing, to make Anonymous happy, a bold thought for a future Washington (if that city name survives), D. C. 'American Historic Figures Statue Garden' ...
(My) sarcasm and cynicism transparent; to most.
President, and General, Eisenhower, in five words, said volumes. And that is exactly what's happening today - Americans hurting America.
