THOUGHTS ON THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS IN POLITICS

THOUGHTS ON THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS IN POLITICS

The prayers of cowards fortune spurns. Ovid

Yesterday morning a politically-driven lunatic armed with a semi-automatic rifle fired dozens and dozens of rounds at a group of GOP congressmen et al., on a ball field turned one-sided battlefield, before being stopped by nearby law enforcement.

He had, just beforehand, confirmed the general identity of his target. Intent.

Some wounded, including a congressman, others injured, and the shooter now dead.

The reaction?

Non-stop news coverage.

Oh, and of course, obligatory thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers.

And in the halls of Congress.

Will anything change?

No.

Congress and media, the top, have set a national tone of vile and violence toward our President.

Recently, a "comic" beheading and a "staged" murder of a mock President Trump was celebrated by many.

Some celebrated yesterday's shooting and called for more.

Sick.

Problematic.

But that goes to the tone (set by Congress and media).

Leadership. Huh!

Thoughts and prayers - political theatre.

Call for unity - political theatre.

Somebody(ies) knew something (about the deranged shooter) and somebody(ies) didn't say anything.

Had somebody(ies) sounded an alarm most likely there would not have been a shooting.

Thoughts and prayers, like hopes and wishes, are not actions.

Sounding an alarm (to law enforcement) is action.

And even that will not always stop a determined lunatic.

Alas, soon yesterday's horror is not forgotten but passes.

Thoughts and prayers peter out.

And the vile and violent demeanor toward President Trump returns full bore - led by (some in) Congress and most media; who are making it difficult, though not impossible, to make America great again.

I am done hoping, praying, and wishing for changes in politics.

Go Trump!

My thoughts.

Amen.
