Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Ralph Waldo Emerson

As winter, and we had a harsh one, gives way to warmer temperatures and more light there's more time to go outside and paint. Thus, not much else interests me.

There is something about standing outside before an easel wielding, as sword, a big brush loaded with paint that puts life in perspective.

A television program the other evening about our planet and it's humble place in the Universe slammed, yet again, home that perspective - our little insignificant fragile blue orb revolving around a star that will some day burn out is truth.

Too is truth painting that, not in photograph, before eyes.

That moving photograph that talks, junk called "news," on television is not truth.

The photograph, though moving, is but a poor representation of reality.

The words a poor representation of reality, too. And not just poor but words cleverly designed to not report but deliberately influence the audience and shape thinking and behavior.

Too many people are consumed by non-truth.

Way too many people.

Which explains the mess here, there, and everywhere.

A remedy?

Painter or not, spend more time outside. A lot more time. Without a device. Walk. Sit. In quiet. And just look at things. Think. For yourself. And use those observations of truth as foundation for determining reality.

The Six Steps of Everything

1. Enthusiasm
2. Disillusionment
3. Panic
4. Search for the guilty
5. Punish the innocent
6. Bonuses, promotions, raises, awards, trophies, and certificates suitable for framing for non-participants

That pretty much sums up everything; especially, steps 4-6, in the news.

I have already spent way too much time crafting this short commentary so I am done.

Time to go outside and set up the easel - which keeps me perpetually stuck in the Enthusiasm step and optimistic something great will result.

To point, Thursday morning I painted our home ...

and gifted it to my wife for our anniversary. She thought it was great! And that is all that really matters - while momentarily afoot Mother Earth.

Simple truth. "Out out brief candle. Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more."
