KAVANAUGH IS KILLING IT

KAVANAUGH IS KILLING IT

When you have no basis for an argument, abuse the plaintiff. Cicero

Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's nominee to round out the Supreme Court, completed the second day of the Senate Judiciary Committee's confirmation hearing late last night.

Judge Kavanaugh is killing it.

He is proving a master of law.

He is proving himself a humble intellectual tempered with common sense and a thoughtful, fair-minded decent person.

Too he is proving to be a man of incredible self-control, patience, and endurance.

Day 1 was stage-setting statements by Senators - divided they sat - and concluded with several introductory statements by Kavanaugh supporters followed by a brief statement by the Judge.

Day 2, yesterday, confirmed President Trump's election has yet to settle with Democrats. The Democrats are a blindly angry mob of juveniles. Their like-minded in the gallery, with frequent outbursts before being escorted out by police, interrupted the hearing. Though the right to protest, lack of civility and decorum respecting the forum, participants, fellow Americans tuning in, and the process noted. Scores arrested.

In short, each Senator afforded 30 minutes for questions telling.

When a Democrat questioned they spoke the majority of the time - posturing; cherry-picking from the Judge's writing and presenting it out of context; and cutting him off before able to duly respond.

Their mission to smear not hear from the nominee. So with no basis for argument (other than Donald Trump was elected President) their tactic is abuse Kavanaugh.

With rare exception animus obvious - visible shaking; emotional, quivering, breaking voice; and air of testiness. Senators Blumenthal, Coons, Harris, and Hirono noted.

When a Republican questioned the Judge usually spoke most of the time - basically being granted time to properly frame positions Democrats misrepresented and to set the record straight.

One Senator stuck out for his commonsense plain-speak questioning so the average interested viewer could at least get something substantive from the hearing. Thank you Senator Ben Sasse (R, NE). He's not a lawyer.

Thoughts after two days ...

William Shakespeare wrote (Henry VI), "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."

That may be going too far, maybe, but Congress would be a better servant of 'we the people' if holding a law degree disqualified one for office.

Brett Kavanaugh is a good man. He is committed to our Constitution, as written. He will be a superb Supreme Court Justice.

Not a revelation, America's (very) best does not hold elective office. (They choose not to subject themselves to the slimy world of politics).

America's "best" that opts to run for office does not hold elective office.

And so we have a body of representatives with warts and flaws, though some are damn good people; trying to do the right thing for the right reasons.

Had Hillary Clinton been elected our Republic gone. Finished.

Thank god for President Trump.

Leadership.

Through law and the courts, President Trump is unscrewing the disaster - characterized by personality, disdain for and disregard of law, and rule by whim and pen - inflicted upon America by his predecessor.

In a few hours the committee reconvenes - each Senator allotted 20 minutes - for another long but final day.

Recommend CSPAN - to watch objectively. (The talking heads on network and [other] cable programs occasionally breaking in intolerable. They add nothing.)

God bless America!

Well said Andy. To echo anonymous, Amen. I'm what many would call old (and I feel it when I am awake), and I'm sorry but I have better and more enlightening things to do than sit in front of the TV watching grown-ups act like spoiled brats who can't have their way, bullies doing their thing. I'd just as soon wait till the end of each session and tune in to a "reliable" media source (including you - thank you) of my choosing and get the after-action report. When in my lifetime have the conservatives every acted in the way democrats have been since that election night? Never in my memory; so sad. Shame on them, but I encourage them to keep it up; they are our best recruiters.

I’m with you, Jim, as to investing the time. I’d rather be painting, picking the banjo, or most any other thing than anchoring a seat before TV. But to write objectively, watching necessary. Thanks for reading and opining.

Dear Col. Weddington :Since you are probably a contemporary of my big brother

USNA class of 1955 and he sends me your posts, today's post

nearly killed me at age 75. I was in the USNR in 1962-1963

because my CO Capt. Reed for NROTC advised me to quit the

contract program and if I had wanted to come back as

enlisted, when I tried tried to enlist in 1965 I was told that

because of my wife being pregnant I could not enlist.

To read at my age, the Shakespeare quote about lawyers I

nearly died.
My quote about lawyers is based upon Walt Kelly who said in

Pogo May 1973, "We have met the enemy and they is us."
