LOOTERS NEED NOT BE A PROBLEM

LOOTERS NEED NOT BE A PROBLEM

Froth at the top, dregs at bottom, but the middle excellent. Voltaire

Saturday afternoon, with Irma bearing down and landfall uncertain, I spoke with a relative who once lived, for more than a decade, along the southern east coast of Florida.

Earlier that morning she'd been in touch with her (former) neighbors and still friends to check on their plans.

Not under mandatory evacuation, to a family, they were hunkering in place.

But they said nearby neighborhoods, closer still to water, had not option - ordered out.

And no sooner had the neighborhood been temporarily vacated reports of burglars and looting came.

The evacuees and stay-behinds livid. As was my relative. Me too.

The damn gall of exploiting the vulnerable.

Following that conversation came news coverage (surveillance video) of looters hitting southern Florida businesses - not for life-sustaining food, water, first aid supplies, etc., but of all things pricey sneakers and sports apparel.

There's no defense for such deplorable behavior.

So, what, exactly, do these folk (animals) contribute to the betterment of society?

As burglars, looters - criminals: Nothing.

As targets for training: Much.

Looting should not, must not, be an acceptable consequence of disruption to civil order.

Public officials and law enforcement expending personnel, time, and resources - needed elsewhere for public safety and productive response - responding, arresting, and detaining dregs - is unacceptable waste.

One remedy?

Snipers.

Bottom (line): Attitudes and behaviors change; or else.

Froth and middle excellent: Deserving.

(Sight) alignment with Voltaire.

I wholly agree. Looting is unacceptable, period, no if and or but.

Shoot on sight, if they move, shoot again.

*PERHAPS* if it is food or medical supplies. BUT they should have had those things stashed LONG before. The mind boggles...

Grrrr.....
