FACEBOOK - WAS THEIR TACKLE AND BLOCK PUNISHMENT AND WARNING?

FACEBOOK - WAS THEIR TACKLE AND BLOCK PUNISHMENT AND WARNING?

When I look back on my knee-jerk reactions now, I realize I should have just taken a breath. Fred Durst

Shortly after usual reveille (0400) around here and with first cup of stiff black coffee in hand, I posted the link to yesterday's commentary (Facebook Takes a Knee to Free Speech) republished in this morning's edition of Fairfax Free Citizen (with thoughtful Editor's Note).

In short order came a Like and a question from a longtime Marine, too retired, friend ... "How can we help you fight Facebook on this issue?"

In reply ...

"Seemingly, enough people already did. This morning came news from Facebook they retracted their action. Will be keeping an eye on this. Yesterday's commentary (published in FxFC this morning) stands. For to have been blocked for 48+ hours, in these days of practically instant response time, strikes me as a sort of punishment and warning. They picked the wrong voice."

And stand yesterday's commentary does and will.

Retract? No.

Having written and published thousands of commentary for just shy of nine years, to include offering on Facebook since onset, there is no rational explanation Facebook can offer for their action. Citing automated "systems" is not acceptable extenuation and mitigation.

In addition to sounding alarms on Facebook, I tweeted the problem to powerful voices. Might that have helped? No idea.

As of this morning, Facebook blocks on recent commentary and homepage url lifted.

Regardless, punishment and warning my assessment. And no amount of collegial apology will change that position.

For it is not rational to believe such a powerful company, pardon me, knee-jerked.

Marine General, now Secretary of Defense, James Mattis is credited with, "No better friend, no worse enemy," describing Marines.

Exactly.

Retreat and surrender are not options.

A fight, however ugly, assured.

Thank you, friends.

Thank you, Marines.

On watch and in the fight, I remain, until last breath. For presence on Facebook, time will tell.

I didn't know automated systems could read. Keep sharpening your axe Colonel.
