PARDON? A HEAD TALKING TURKEY BEFORE THANKSGIVING?

PARDON? A HEAD TALKING TURKEY BEFORE THANKSGIVING?

"In the absence of willpower the most complete collection of virtues and talents is wholly worthless." Aleister Crowley

Our national bird was almost the turkey.

But the bald eagle it is - and singular is the representation of the majestic and powerful bird. Authority it messages and respect it commands.

Not so the turkey. For there's the bird, of course, and people, too, at times.

The United States of America - a land like no other, ever, that has survived and thrived only because of her people and their willpower.

Survival, fight, has in turn caused these people, Americans, to invent, and invent still, tools of power to safeguard (and promote) their willpower.

That is, willpower spurns power. And power spurns and champions willpower.

Willpower - resoluteness.

Resoluteness - steadfast; true; faithful; resolved; determined in purpose.

So describes the soaring history of America.

With willpower goes courage and decisiveness.

There is no willpower in the absence of courage, physical and moral, and decisiveness - the two ideas inextricably intertwined.

So how is it that the direction of our grand staunch land, of the bald eagle, momentarily rests with a blinking, nervous, confused and indecisive bird - who talks willpower in one sentence, and turkey in the next; making gobble gobble gobbledygook?

Mr. Crowley got it right.

In closing,

Bald eagles have keen eyesight.

Likewise turkeys have keen eyesight but their hearing is also exceptional. So someone whisper in the turkey's ear to quit talking turkey, quit trying to shoot a turkey (three consecutive birdies during a round of golf), and be the fearsome bald eagle.

As Johnny Weissmuller said, "With but few exceptions, it is always the underdog who wins through sheer willpower."

Our enemies, big underdogs, do not lack willpower. So the duty is the president's to unleash, mercilessly, our power upon them - for America, no turkey, is exceptional. And that has always been clear.

Off with their heads!

Post Script

How interesting it is the Oval Office's Resolute desk front is adorned with not a turkey but a bald eagle.

A bald eagle on the front of the desk,
and a turkey sitting behind the desk.
